Jen Calder has been creating and playing music for over 20 years. Intricate finger-picking guitar combined with thoughtful lyrics and engaging melodies guide her performance, a sound both unique and familiar that connects her with her audience.
Her voice and style have been compared to many strong female artists, including Joni Mitchell and Natalie Merchant (10000 Maniacs). She draws from her own musical influences as well, including Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, The Indigo Girls and The Midnight. It is this eclectic taste that has built her interest in playing with rhythms and looping, now a routine part of her solo performances.
Proficient in guitar, piano, percussion and voice, she performs as both a soloist and as part of multiple musical collaborations. Her band, The Kildeers, released their debut album, Faster than the Light, in May of 2025. Leaning in to her folk side, The Kildeers album includes joyful mandolin and unique percussion elements with her signature style. The album was ranked 6th in CFRC Kingston's top album releases of the year.
Other musical projects have allowed her to share the stage with creative giants, such as Terra Lightfoot, Joel Plaskett and the Trews (Back to the Farm, 2025) and she has participated in multiple local festivals, including Art on the Farm (2025) and Spring Reverb (2023).
Based in Kingston, Ontario, she continues to play regularly around the city and surrounding area. She is currently writing new material for a follow up album, aimed for released in early 2027.
